On 24 July 2024, a Saury Airlines plane crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu while flying to Pokhara. 18 people had died in this accident. The plane took off from Tribhuvan Airport at around 11 am and crashed shortly thereafter. Of those killed in the accident, 17 were employees of Sourya Airlines, while the remaining two were crew members. This 21 year old plane was being repaired and taken for testing.

Iranian President’s helicopter crash
On May 19, 2024, the helicopter of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed due to bad weather. In this accident, 9 people including President Ibrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdullahian were killed. There were 3 helicopters in the convoy of the Iranian President and out of these, 2 helicopters landed safely at their destination. According to reports, the pilot lost control of the helicopter, leading to the accident. The helicopter met with an accident while crossing a mountainous area in dense fog. The accident took place near Azerbaijan’s border city of Jolfa, which is 600 kilometers from Iran’s capital Tehran.

A Russian plane crashed in the beginning of the year 2024, i.e. January. 74 people were killed in this accident. During this plane crash that took place in the Belgorod area, there were 65 Ukrainian prisoners and 9 Russian crew members in the plane. However, after this incident, Russia’s Defense Ministry had said in a statement that the missile fired from Ukraine had hit the aircraft, while Ukraine had called it a conspiracy by Russia.

The wreckage of a military plane carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima was found in a mountainous area in the northern part of the country after a search that lasted for more than a day. Saulos Chilima’s plane was flying 45 minutes to the city of Mzuzu, 370 kilometers (230 miles) north of the southern African country’s capital Lilongwe, before it disappeared. The plane was asked to turn back due to bad weather and poor visibility but this did not happen and the accident occurred.
