Georgetown:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Guyana on the third and final leg of his three-nation tour, on Wednesday launched his favorite ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on the soil of the South American country. Prime Minister Modi and Guyana President Irfan Ali jointly planted trees to expand the afforestation effort to another continent.
Earlier, President Ali had described Prime Minister Modi as the world’s ‘champion among leaders’ for his influential leadership and contribution to developing countries and praised his style of administration.
Issuing a joint statement, the President of Guyana said, “Thank you very much, PM Narendra Modi. It is a great honor for us to have you here. You are a champion among (global) leaders. You have led incredibly. You “It has shone a light on the developing world and created standards and frameworks for development that many countries are adopting. Much of this is relevant to us here in Guyana.”
President Ali, the country’s Prime Minister Brigadier (retired) Mark Anthony Phillips and several cabinet ministers warmly welcomed PM Modi at the airport. Prime Minister Modi reached Guyana after attending the G20 summit in Brazil. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the South American nation in the last 56 years.
