James Vince Quit first-class cricket to Play in PSL: The England and Wales Cricket Board had recently taken a big decision to save domestic cricket from the growing T20 leagues around the world. The ECB had made a new policy that players will not be allowed to leave domestic cricket and play in foreign T20 leagues. ECB had given exemption to IPL in this decision.
After this decision of the board, it was believed that many players might revolt against it and now the same has happened. Hampshire’s legendary player James Vince has decided to stay away from first-class cricket for the 2025 season. James Vince was part of the team that won the 2019 World Cup.
James Vince was the captain of Hampshire and he has decided to leave the captaincy to play in PSL. He had performed brilliantly for the team for two decades. The 33-year-old Vince has scored 13,340 runs at an average of 40.18 in 216 matches for Hampshire since his debut in 2009, which includes 30 centuries and 58 fifties. James Vince is the highest run scorer for Hampshire.
James Vince is now eyeing a better performance for Hampshire in the T20 Blast. Let us tell you, the dates of English Summer and PSS are clashing with each other. PSL is organized in February-March, but Champions Trophy is proposed this year. In such a situation, there is a possibility of PSL being held in April and May. During this period, IPL will be organized in India.
James Vince said in a press release issued by Hampshire, “I love Hampshire. It has been my club and home for 16 years, so I want to be able to continue to give my best for Hampshire in T20 cricket, and “To hopefully build on our success in the competition, I also need to understand what’s best for my family, and combine that with the stage of my career I’m at.”
James Vince added, “I’m extremely grateful to everyone at Utility Bowl for supporting me during a really difficult time last year and allowing me to take this next step.”
The club’s cricket director, Giles White expressed his gratitude for Vince’s contribution. White said, “James has been at the heart of the club for the best part of 20 years, showing full commitment on and off the field as the team’s key batsman and captain. We recognize that this announcement will be a disappointment for many fans.” “But we hope everyone will join us in celebrating the contribution he has made to our club and support him in fulfilling his commitment to continue leading the Hawks into the Vitality Blast in 2025.”
