Russia-Ukraine War:
The Russia-Ukraine war will continue in 2024. While America and its allies stood firmly with Ukraine, Russia too is not ready to back down. At the end of the year, two such incidents occurred which indicated that there was little hope for peace in the near future.
Recently, Washington gave Ukraine permission to use long-range American missiles inside Russia. Taking another big decision, America has decided to send anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine. In response, Russia amended its nuclear policy. In this, new conditions have been set as to when nuclear weapons can be used. This step of Russia has also been linked to the Ukraine war.
Israel-Hamas conflict:
7 October 2023 In response to a major attack by Hamas in Israel, the Jewish State launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip occupied by the Palestinian group. About 1200 people were killed in the Hamas attack while more than 250 people were taken hostage. In 2024, the Gaza war entered its most brutal and horrific phase. Israel, bent on destroying Hamas, turned the Gaza Strip into ruins. Despite all the international criticism, there was no change in Israel’s attitude. America has stood by him as a rock during the war. Therefore, no international pressure could trouble the Jewish nation.
Israel-Hezbollah:
The Gaza war also brought Israel-Hezbollah tensions to their peak. The Israeli army started large-scale air strikes on Lebanese groups from 23 September. It also launched a ‘limited’ ground campaign across the border, reportedly aimed at weakening Hezbollah. Many commanders, including Hezbollah’s Chief Hassan Nasrallah, were killed in Israeli attacks and many of its bases were heavily damaged. After a long bloody conflict, an agreement was reached between Israel and Lebanon. But analysts described this as a very ‘weak reconciliation’. Israeli attacks continued even after the agreement.
Syria coup:
This country, which has been embroiled in civil war for 13 years, remained relatively peaceful in the last few years but the situation changed in 2024. Rebel groups started a major operation against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in November. Assad, who had been successfully fighting the rebels for a long time, could not save his power this time. On December 8, he had to leave power and run away. At present, the future of Syria is in limbo. Analysts believe that the coming times for Syria are very difficult, it is also difficult to say whether Syria will be able to remain united.
Israel-Iran conflict:
For the first time in 2024, direct military conflict was seen between Iran and Israel. Iran was strongly opposing the Israeli military action in Gaza. He is also a supporter of Hezbollah, so a situation of direct conflict with Israel started forming.
On April 1, Israel bombed an Iranian consulate compound in Damascus, Syria, killing several senior Iranian officials. In response, Iran and its Axis of Resistance allies seized the Israeli-owned ship MSC Aries. Tehran and its allies launched missile and drone attacks inside Israel on April 13. After this, Israel launched retaliatory attacks in Iran and Syria on 19 April.
Tension increased after the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran on July 31. Iran and Hezbollah accused Israel of murder. In October 2024, Iran fired missiles at the Jewish nation. After this, Israel carried out more retaliatory attacks against Iran on 25 October.
Sudan Civil War:
Sudan: Sudan is in civil war since 15 April 2023. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) are embroiled in a bloody conflict. According to estimates by international organizations, the ongoing war in Sudan has claimed the lives of more than 27,120 people and displaced more than 14 million people within the country or abroad.
