It is extremely cold in North India. After heavy snowfall in hilly states like Jammu-Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, its effect is being seen in the plains as well. Besides, rain in many states of North India has also increased the problem. People of the plain areas of the country including Delhi are facing severe cold. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has predicted dense fog in many states of North India. Due to this, drivers may have to face a lot of trouble.
The Meteorological Department estimates that dense to very dense fog may occur in northwestern India during two-three days. IMD has said that dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail in different places of Haryana-Chandigarh during late night and morning hours of 29-30 December.
Temperature expected to drop in Rajasthan
Along with this, dense to very dense fog may occur in different places of Rajasthan during late night and morning hours of 29th December. Also, there is a possibility of severe cold in the coming days and a significant drop in the minimum temperature.

Light rain occurred at some places in eastern parts of Rajasthan on Sunday, while dense or very dense fog was recorded at many places.
The Meteorological Department has also predicted fog for Punjab. Dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to prevail in different places of Punjab during late night and morning hours during 29-30 December.
Fog may remain in Delhi
The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature recorded in Delhi on Sunday was 13 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees more than the average temperature of this month. The Meteorological Department has predicted dense fog in the capital today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi today are expected to be around 18 and 6 degrees Celsius respectively.
Life started getting back on track
On the other hand, life started getting back on track in Kashmir from Sunday, a day after the heaviest snowfall of the season. Flight operations have resumed and many roads have been cleared for traffic. The Jammu and Kashmir government had deployed officials from various departments to restore services after connectivity was disrupted following Saturday’s heavy snowfall.
Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir started on Friday evening and continued till Saturday, which is being said to be the heaviest snowfall in recent years. By Sunday morning, air traffic resumed at Srinagar International Airport. Airport Authority of India officials confirmed that operations returned to normal after security checks and runway clearance.
The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, connecting the valley with the rest of the country, was also reopened for vehicular traffic after remaining closed for a day. However, travelers have been advised to exercise caution, especially between Banihal and Qazigund, where the roads are slippery. Due to heavy snow accumulation, many major roads including Mughal Road and Sinthan Pass are still closed. The snowfall on Saturday had a major impact on air, rail and road traffic.
Snowfall occurred in the higher areas of Himachal Pradesh. Maximum snow fell in Kalpa and Kufri. Narkanda, Keylong and other higher reaches of the state also received snowfall on Sunday morning.
