There was a stampede on platform number 13 and 14 of New Delhi railway station late on Saturday night when rumors of the cancellation of two trains going to Prayagraj were allegedly spread among the passengers. At least 15 people have been confirmed in the stampede and many others are said to be injured. Railways immediately arranged four special trains and reduced the crowd pressure on the platform. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the situation is under control. Railways have ordered a high level inquiry into the incident.
The Chief Emergency Medical Officer of LNJP Hospital has confirmed the death of 15 people. These include 10 women and three children. Some injured have also been taken to Lady Harding Medical College.
Ashwini Vaishnav said that Delhi Police and Railway Protection Forces have reached the spot and the injured have been sent to the hospital. He said that special trains have been started operating so that the huge crowd suddenly can be removed.
Vaishnav wrote on ‘X’, “The situation is under control at New Delhi railway station. Special trains are being run to remove the sudden crowd.”
Railways said that the incident took place around 9.30 pm. Railways said that the crowd on both the platforms was quite high, due to which some people fainted. After this, a stampede -like situation became.
After the stampede, the injured were taken to the hospital with the help of an ambulance. Ambulance driver Samar Yadav told news agency IANS, “Three injured have been rushed to the hospital in the ambulance. The condition of the injured was critical, in which a young woman, a young man and an elderly. The injured were admitted to the Lady Harding Hospital. “
Amarinder Kumar, a passenger, said, “The number of devotees to go to Mahakumbh is very high. They got crowded at the New Delhi railway station. The administration made a lot of effort to handle the crowd, after which the crowd was removed.”
Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar reached New Delhi railway station to assess the situation with the Director General of RPF and the officials concerned. Railways have ordered a high level inquiry into the incident.
According to the railway, the situation is now completely under control and the crowd is reduced. Railway police and Delhi Police are present at the scene and the injured have been sent to the hospital for early treatment. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed grief over the deaths in the incident. He wrote in a post on X, “Sad news from New Delhi railway station. I am deeply saddened by the deaths due to stampede on railway platforms. My condolences are with mournful families in this hour of grief. I pray. “
Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has expressed condolences to the families of the victims in the accident. In a post, he wrote, “The disorder and stampede at the New Delhi railway station has led to the unfortunate and tragic incident of loss of life and property. I have deep condolences to the families of the victims.”
The Lieutenant Governor said that he has asked the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner of Police and asked him to resolve the situation. The Chief Secretary has been asked to implement DDMA measures and deploy relief personnel. All hospitals are ready to deal with emergency situations.
He wrote, “I have instructed the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner of Police to stay on the spot and control relief measures. I am constantly monitoring the operation.”
