Adani Ports will buy 8 tugs, India’s largest tug order given to Cochin Shipyard for Rs 450 crore

Adani Group company Adani Ports And Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has placed an order to Cochin Shipyard Ltd. to buy 8 tugs. According to the press release issued by the country’s largest private port operator company, this is India’s largest tug order. It will be equipped with modern facilities.

Let us tell you that tugs are small but very powerful ships which pull big ships and bring them to the berth or dock. They are also used to guide big ships through narrow passages.

‘Self-reliant India’ initiative will get strength

This initiative is in line with the Government’s Make in India and Self-reliant India initiative to promote domestic manufacturing and increase self-reliance in the maritime sector. Delivery of these tugs may begin in December 2026 and continue till May 2028. This will significantly improve the efficiency and safety of ship operations in Indian ports. The estimated cost of this deal will be Rs 450 crore.

Earlier, APSEZ had placed an order for the construction of two 62-tonne Bollard Pull ASD (Azimuthing Stern Drive) tugs to Cochin Shipyard for Ocean Sparkle Limited, both of which were delivered on schedule and deployed at Paradip Port and New Mangalore Port. Deployed at. Three additional ASD tugs are currently under construction, bringing the total order to 13 tugs, with the aim of providing a young fleet for efficient and reliable services in the port sector.

Vizhinjam Port welcomes 100th commercial ship ‘MSC Michaela’

Yesterday, Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited, operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), welcomed the 100th commercial ship ‘MSC Michaela’. This achievement has been achieved by Vizhinjam Port within six months of the start of operations. Vizhinjam Port has been developed by APSEZ in collaboration with the Government of Kerala. This is the first transshipment port near Kovalam Beach in Kerala.
