BJD on Adani Allegations: Odisha’s former ruling party Biju Janata Dal has denied any involvement of the then BJD government or its party in the bribery case of Adani Group. The party has issued a clarification regarding this. Biju Janata Dal has said that the allegations of state government officials taking bribe from Adani Group for supply of renewable energy to the state from the central pool are false and baseless. Biju Janata Dal has been in power in Odisha from the year 2000 to June 2024.

Former Energy Minister of Odisha and BJD MLA Pratap Kesari Dev issued a press release on behalf of the party saying that the allegations made in the name of Odisha are baseless and not based on facts. Odisha government has nothing to do with this agreement. Whatever power purchase agreements were signed were between the Central Government’s Venture Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) as well as the State Government’s PSU GRIDCO and the Distribution Company. The state government had no role in all these matters, although the state administration was informed about the Power Sale Agreement (PSA).

BJD has also said that this agreement between the two government entities is purely between SECI and the state PSU. In this, the agreement to purchase 500 MW of renewable energy was done due to the lower rates of SECI and there was no involvement with any private party, be it Adani Group or anyone else.
Adani Group accused of paying bribe of 265 million dollars
The US Securities and Exchange Board, which comes under the US Justice Department, has accused the Adani Group of paying bribes of $ 265 million to get power deals in India. Among the states in India where Adani Group is accused of paying bribes, the names of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh also appeared. Yesterday, former Andhra Pradesh government and former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy were also accused of taking bribe in power deal.
US Justice Department made allegations
The US Justice Department has accused seven people, including India’s second richest man Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani, of bribing officials of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to buy expensive solar energy. Adani Group, however, denied the allegations and said that the allegations made by US prosecutors are without any basis and Adani Group follows all the laws.
