New Delhi. There was a war of words between veteran actors Anupam Kher and Hansal Mehta regarding the film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’. The war of words started after Mehta agreed with a journalist’s post, which said that the political drama film released in 2019 was full of ‘lies’ about former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Manmohan Singh, known as the father of economic reforms in India, died on Thursday night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi at the age of 92. He served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. This war of words between Kher and Mehta started after a post by senior journalist Veer Sanghvi. Sanghvi on Friday termed the film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ as ‘one of the worst Hindi films ever’. The film was based on the memoir ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ by Singh’s former media advisor Sanjay Baru. Kher played the role of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and actor Akshaye Khanna played the role of Baru in the film. Directed by Vijay Gutte, the film depicted political events and decisions during Singh’s leadership. The film focused on his challenges as Prime Minister and the influence of the Congress Party on his administration.

There was an uproar after this post

Sanghvi wrote on ‘X’, ‘If you want to remember the lies told about Manmohan Singh, you should watch ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ again. Not only is this one of the worst Hindi films ever made, but it is an example of how the media was used to tarnish the image of a good man.’ Mehta (56) shared this post of Sanghvi and wrote, ‘100 percent.” Earlier, filmmaker Mehta had expressed grief over Singh’s demise in a post and said that the country ‘should apologize to him’. . Mehta had posted, “I am indebted to him more than anyone else. Whatever the compulsion or intention, there is regret, which I will carry with me with a very heavy heart. Sorry, sir. Apart from your achievements as an economist, finance minister and prime minister, you were an honorable man.

Anupam Kher expressed his displeasure

Mehta’s support of Shanghvi’s post, however, irked Kher, who termed the filmmaker a ‘hypocrite’. He also revealed that Mehta had worked as the ‘creative director’ of the film. Kher said, ‘Veer Sanghvi is not a hypocrite in all this. They have the freedom to dislike a film. But Hansal Mehta was the ‘Creative Director’ of the film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, who was present during the entire shooting of the film in England. He gave his creative information and may have also taken fees for it. Actor Kher (69) wrote, ‘So giving 100% confidence in Veer Sanghvi’s comment is very messed up and full of double standards!’ Kher said that although he does not agree with Sanghvi’s opinion, he believes that the artiste ‘can do bad or indifferent work’. He said, ‘But we should adopt it. Not like Hansal Mehta, who is trying to please a certain section of people. Hansal, grow up. I still have all the videos and pictures we filmed together!’
