Police and arrested Hindu priest outside a court in Chattogran, Bangladesh on Tuesday. Chinmoy Krishna Das A clash broke out between the supporters of Thousands of protesters had gathered outside the court complex to protest against the arrest of the former ISKCON leader in a treason case. All those who protested against the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das were mainly from the Hindu community.
The uproar started when the court refused to grant bail to Chinmay Krishna Das and the spokesperson of Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Manch.
According to Bangladeshi media, the agitators tried to stop the prison van carrying religious leader Das. After about a three-hour standoff, police fired tear gas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protesters.
One person is feared dead in this violence, although official confirmation has not been made yet.
Chinmay Das was arrested on Monday
Chandan Kumar Dhar, also known as Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, was arrested at Dhaka airport on Monday afternoon. He was produced in the Chattogra Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate’s court today, where the court refused to grant him bail.
It is said that a large number of people gathered outside the court complex in the afternoon to stop the jail van from being taken back to the jail.
Chinmay Krishna Das’s arrest comes amid tensions over minority rights in the South Asian country, which has seen widespread political violence since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Ministry has also issued a statement expressing deep concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmay Das and has urged Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all minorities.

In a statement issued by the Indian government, it was said that this incident happened after several attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh. There have been many cases of arson and looting of minority homes and business establishments as well as theft and vandalism and desecration of deities and temples.
About 8 percent of Bangladesh’s 170 million population are Hindus. Since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the new military-backed interim government led by Mohammad Yunus has been criticized for failing to stop violence against minorities.
Attacks on Hindu businesses, homes and temples in Bangladesh
In recent months, Hindu businesses, homes and temples have been vandalized. The situation has become worse after the departure of Sheikh Hasina. Earlier this month, sedition charges were filed against 19 people who participated in a minority rights rally in Chittagong.
