Referring to the farmers’ march to Delhi, he said that the government had earlier objected to bringing tractor-trolleys, but when the farmers have come out on foot, what objection should the government have? Farmers have every right to express their views under democratic rights.
Senior Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government should give up its “obstinate attitude” and immediately talk to the protesting farmers as the farmer leaders who are on a fast unto death. Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s condition is continuously deteriorating.
Dallewal has been on a fast at the Khanauri border in Punjab since November 26 to put pressure on the Center to accept the demands of farmers, including legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops. According to a farmer leader, Dallewal’s weight has reduced by 11 kg, while his blood sugar levels are also fluctuating.
Hooda said, “Farmers are not making any new demands. During talks with the government two years ago, it was decided that a committee would be formed to guarantee MSP, but till now no progress has been made on this. They are only reminding the government of its promises. They want legal guarantee of MSP for their crops, which is completely justified. The farmers had withdrawn the movement in 2021 on this condition.” The former Chief Minister of Haryana said that the BJP government should leave its stubborn attitude and talk to the farmers.
Referring to the farmers’ march to Delhi, he said that the government had earlier objected to bringing tractor-trolleys, but when the farmers have come out on foot, what objection should the government have? Farmers have every right to express their views under democratic rights. It is their right to block roads, but if someone takes law into their own hands, the government has the right to take action.
Referring to the law and order situation of Haryana, Hooda verbally attacked the Naib Singh Saini government. He said that the number of crimes has increased in Haryana and the state government is completely sleeping. Referring to the bomb blast in Gurgaon, Hooda said that the government should take immediate action on it. Today people are feeling unsafe in Haryana. Everyone is feeling scared.
He said that if Anil Vij has to go to Delhi then he does not need to take anyone’s permission. Delhi is the capital of the country. Why should we seek permission from anyone to express our views? He also said that it is not necessary to take permission for a demonstration or any political program, provided it is within the ambit of law. He further asked the question that with whose permission does Anil Vij go to Delhi? If I want to go to Delhi, I don’t need anyone’s permission, it is the capital of the country.
