Naiduniya Representative, Bhopal. Bhopal Cyber Crime Police has arrested an accused from Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh in connection with an attempt to commit cyber fraud of Rs 3.5 lakh by digitally arresting a telecom engineer in Bajaria area of the capital.
This is said to be the first case of arrest in the digital arrest case in the state. The accused used to work as an agent of Airtel company in selling SIMs. He also provided SIM to the main accused who was arrested digitally. He was in contact with the main accused for the last eight months. Till now he had sold more than 150 SIMs at the rate of Rs 1,000 per SIM.
Using these SIMs, the main accused used to cheat people by calling them and threatening to implicate them in serious matters. However, after the police action, the main accused, resident of Dehli Ghatampur, Kanpur, absconded. The arrested accused has been interrogated and sent to jail.
Additional DCP (Crime) Shailendra Chauhan said that the number of Bhatipur in Mahoba was used to digitally arrest telecom engineer Pramod Kumar. This was issued on the documents of Vikas Sahu. When police interrogated Vikas, it came to light that a few days ago, Airtel company agent Dhirendra Vishwakarma (29) had sold him the SIM.
Main accused absconded before police arrived
During this period, Dhirendra had taken Vikas’s fingerprints twice. During strict interrogation, Dhirendra issued a second SIM in the name of customer development and accepted to sell it to cyber thug Durgesh Singh (21), resident of Delhi Ghatampur (Kanpur). When the police reached the address of the main accused Durgesh, he had absconded.
Used to send SIM orders by buses
Investigation revealed that accused Dhirendra Kumar Vishwakarma was selling SIMs as an agent of Airtel company for about two years. He used to sell cigarettes by setting up camps in the villages of Mahoba. He was introduced to Durgesh about eight months ago.
Durgesh had told that he plays online games, for which he requires more sims. Initially Dhirendra used to sell him a SIM for Rs 500, but later he fixed the price of a SIM at Rs 1000. He used to send parcels of several SIMs in 15-20 days from Mahoba to Delhi by Ghatampur Roadways buses, after which he used to take payment from UPI.
The accused used to release two sims
Dhirendra used to lure people by giving them Rs 100 SIMs for free. Used to scan the Aadhaar card of the customers and take live photo and issue SIM in their name, but lied to them that it was not linked to Aadhaar.
After some time, he would scan the fingerprints of the customers and issue another SIM in their name. During this time, he used to issue two SIMs, but kept one SIM with himself, which he later sold to cyber thugs.
