First death from Guilan-Baire syndrome in Solapur, Pune: 16 patients on ventilator; Currently 101 active cases, 19 children under the age of 9 years

The first GBS case in Pune was revealed on 9 January.

The first death has come to light from Guilan-Baire syndrome (GBS) in Pune, Maharashtra. According to Times of India reports, the health department of Maharashtra gave this information on Sunday. This death occurred in Solapur.

In Pune, 16 GBS patients are on ventilator support. 19 patients with GBS symptoms are under 9 years of age. There are 23 patients aged 50–80 years.

On January 9, a hospitalized patient GBS positive came to Pune Cluster, this was the first case. After this, the test of other hospital patients was taken, of which some biological samples were detected in Campilobacter Jejuni bacteria.

This bacteria causes about one -third of GBS cases and is also responsible for a lot of sequer infection. Now in Pune, the active case has increased to 101 with 28 new cases.

GBS is an autoimmune condition. In this, our immune system attacks its own nerves. This causes neurological disorder. Due to this, hands and feet suddenly weaken. It becomes difficult to get up and sit.

Water sample was taken in Pune

On Sunday, officials took a sample of water in Pune. According to the Test result released on 25 January, bacteria E. Koli’s level is very high in a well near the main water reservoir Khadakwasla dam in Pune.

According to officials, it is not clear whether the well is continuing or not. Officials have advised people to drink boiled water, avoid eating cold food. Eat hot food only.

According to the health department, 25,578 houses have been surveyed till Sunday. Usually, only 2 GBS patients used to appear in a month. Suddenly the number has increased. Samples are being taken in homes. The reason for the spread of GBS is being searched.

Treatment of GBS is very expensive, one injection of 20 thousand

Treatment of GBS is expensive. An injection is priced at 20 thousand rupees (private hospital). According to the doctors, 80% of the patients in the grip of GBS start walking without any support in 6 months after discharge from the hospital. But in many cases the patient takes one year or more time.

According to doctors, treatment of GBS is also very expensive. Patients typically have to take a course of immunoglobulin (IVIG) injection.

Deputy CM Pawar announced free treatment of GBS

Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar announced free treatment of GBS patients. He said that the people of Pimpri-Chinchwad will be treated at VCM Hospital, while patients of Pune Municipal Corporation area will be treated at Kamla Nehru Hospital. Free treatment will be available for the people of rural areas at Sasoon Hospital in Pune.
