Lieutenant General Sadhna Saxena Nair was made the Director General of the Army Medical Services in July 2024.
For the first time in the history of India, mother and son will receive the President’s honor together. Today, on the occasion of 26th January, President Draupadi Murmu will honor Lieutenant General Sadhna S Nair and her son Tarun Nair.
Lieutenant General Sadhna S Nair, VSM will be awarded the AVSM. At the same time, his son Squadron Leader Tarun Nair will be awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
Lieutenant General Sadhna S. Nair will be awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for his service, while his son Squadron Leader Tarun Nair will be awarded the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) for bravery and courage in the Indian Air Force.
On Saturday, on the eve of Republic Day, President Draupadi Murmu approved giving gallantry awards to 93 soldiers of the Armed Forces and Central Armed Forces. These include 2 Kirti Chakras (1 posthumously) and 14 Shaurya Chakras (3 posthumously).
Lieutenant General Sadhna S Nair visited Army Hospital Research and Referral on 13 December 2024.
Sadhna is the first woman DG of Army Medical Service Lieutenant General Sadhna Saxena Nair was made the Director General of the Army Medical Services on 31 July 2024. She is the first woman to work on this post.
After being promoted to the post of Air Marshal in the Air Force in October 2023, Sadhna was made the Director General (DG) of Hospital Services (Armed Forces). She was also the first woman officer to be appointed to this post. Sadhana is the second woman medical officer of the Air Force to reach the rank of Air Marshal.
Earlier, Sadhna was given promotional transfer from Air Force Training Command Bangalore Head Quarter to Delhi. Her husband KP Nair retired from the post of DG of Inspection and Flight Safety in 2015. In this way, Sadhna and KP Nair are the first couple in the country to reach the rank of Air Marshal.
Second woman officer of Air Marshal rank She became the second woman officer after the promotional transfer of Sadhna Saxena Nair. Who has achieved Air Marshal rank. Before him, Air Marshal Padma Bandopadhyay achieved this feat. Padma was posted at the rank of Air Marshal in 2002. Apart from this, the Navy surgeon who reached three-star rank was Vice Admiral Punita Arora, who has retired.
Flight Lieutenant Tarun Nair honored with ‘Vayu Sena Medal’ Flight Lieutenant Tarun Nair, fighter pilot of the MiG-29 squadron, will be awarded the ‘Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry)’ for his extraordinary bravery and skill. Despite several technical glitches in the MiG-29 aircraft during a difficult flight on 12 March 2024, he landed the aircraft safely. There were serious problems with aircraft control during the flight, but Tarun Nair displayed patience, skill and excellent judgment to avoid a major accident.

Three generations’ connection with Air Force Air Marshal Sadhna Saxena Nair’s family has been associated with the Air Force for 3 generations. Sadhna’s father and brother were also doctors in the Indian Air Force. His son is posted as a fighter pilot (flight lieutenant) in the Air Force.
