November 27 is the birth anniversary of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, father of famous poet and megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s childhood
Harivansh Rai Bachchan was born in Babu Patti, a village in Pratapgarh district of UP. Before him, his mother had given birth to two more children, but they died as soon as they were born. Harivansh Rai Bachchan was Srivastava by birth, but then he started using his poetic name Bachchan as his surname and later Amitabh also carried forward his father’s same surname. Actually, Amitabh Bachchan’s real name was Inquilab Srivastava, but later his father changed his name and when Amitabh entered Bollywood, he adopted his father’s poetic surname as his identity.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan considered son Amitabh to be the reincarnation of his father.
Recently, Aamir Khan had participated in Amitabh Bachchan’s show Kaun Banega Crorepati with his son Junaid. Referring to the first meeting of his parents, Big B had said – ‘A friend of Babuji lived in Bareilly, he called Babuji to meet him. Babuji went to meet him. During dinner, Babuji’s friend requested him to recite a poem. But, before my father could start reciting the poem, his friend asked his wife to call my mother (Teji Bachchan). It was there that Babuji had his first meeting with our mother. After mother’s arrival, Babuji started reciting the poem ‘What should I do with sympathy’ and mother started crying after listening to this poem. Dad’s friend left mom and dad alone in the room and went out himself.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan got married in 1941.
‘After some time, father’s friend came with a rosary and asked him to make her wear it. Just that day, father had decided that now he would spend his entire life with our mother. Harivansh Rai Bachchan married Teji Bachchan in 1941. From this marriage, they had two children, named Amitabh and Ajitabh Bachchan.
