During the 1978 riots in Sambhal, Hindu families were driven away and their land was taken over by people of other communities. Besides, he was also threatened not to come to the ground. Not only this, a school was also built on the occupied land. However, now the Sambhal administration has taken action and handed over the captured land back to the Hindu families. A total of three Hindu families have been given back possession of the land. This is being considered as the biggest action of the administration in Sambhal after the violence of 24th November, in which the administration has got back their land worth crores to the Hindus who were driven away. Deputy District Magistrate (SDM) Vandana Mishra has detained the concerned families and deployed police there for their security.

The Sambhal district administration has given back possession of their land to three Hindu families who fled during the 1978 riots. Officials said that this land had allegedly been encroached upon by people of another community and the original owners had complained to the administration demanding action in the matter.

Families narrated their ordeal
Amrish Kumar, one of the land claimants, said, ‘We lived in Sambhal till the 1978 riots. My grandfather Tulsi Ram was murdered during the riots. Fearing for our lives, we left our property in the Mohalla world. Kumar said, ‘When we tried to return, we were chased away. We recently submitted a complaint to the district administration along with documents proving our ownership. Similarly, Asha Devi said, ‘We now live in Chandausi. After the 1978 riots, we were forced to migrate. Three families lived here. Our 2.25 bigha land located behind the road was captured by the people of Muslim community and built a school there. Despite several attempts to get it back, we were driven away. After filing the complaint, today we came to know that the land is being measured, that is why we have come here.”
Deputy District Magistrate (SDM) Vandana Mishra told reporters, ‘A complaint was received about encroachment on the land by the school committee. After the complaint, the Revenue Department conducted a survey. It confirmed that a part of the land still belonged to the complainants. He said that out of 15,000 square feet of land, 10,000 square feet of land was found to be valid and the possession of which has been returned to the families.
