The battle for the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2025 is now becoming even more interesting. Broadly speaking, now only four teams are left in the race for the finals. The name of India is also included in this. Although the path ahead is now much more difficult for Team India, it is still not impossible. Meanwhile, there is still time for the third test of the India vs Australia series to start, in such a situation you must know how Team India will be able to enter the final of the WTC. Will India have to depend on any other team or will the team secure its place in the final on its own?
Three matches of India vs Australia series still left
The 5 test match series is going on between India and Australia. Till now two matches of this series have taken place. Out of these, both the teams have won one match each. There are still three matches left. With these three matches, the race for the final of the World Test Championship will be clear to a great extent. First of all, let’s talk about the first scenario. If Team India beats Australia 4-1 in this series, then no team can stop it from going to the final of the World Test Championship. That means, for this, Team India will have to win all three remaining matches from here.
Team India’s work can be done even by two wins, but losing is prohibited.
After this let’s talk about other scenarios. Even if Team India wins two out of the three remaining matches from here, the Indian team can go to the final of the World Test Championship from here without the help of any other team. However, the condition is that out of the remaining three teams win two matches and lose none. That means if one match is drawn then two matches have to be won. This too will not cause any problem for Team India.
Will have to depend on other teams after defeat
The third scenario is that Team India wins the remaining two matches and loses one match. With this, the result of the series will be 3-2 in favor of India. But in such a situation, it will be necessary that the Sri Lankan team draws at least one match with Australia. With this, India’s PCT will remain at 58.8 and Australia’s PCT will remain at 57. That means Team India can enter the final. If we talk about the fourth and last scenario, then if the series ends in a draw of 2-2. From here, if both India and Australia teams win one match each and one match gets drawn, then it will be necessary for the Sri Lankan team to beat Australia 1-0 or 2-0 in their two-match series. If this happens, India’s PCT will become 55.3, while Australia’s PCT will remain at 53.5. This means that if the series ends in a draw, then the Australian team will not be able to win even a single match in Sri Lanka.
Team India would like to go to the final of the World Test Championship with a win.
Out of the four scenarios that we have told you here, the first two are beneficial for the Indian team. Because in that the Indian team will win its matches and go to the finals, it will not have to depend on any other team. But if we look at the remaining two scenarios, then the Indian team can reach the final, for this Sri Lanka will have to perform unexpectedly. Which is not impossible, but definitely a difficult task.
