Mumbai: Kangana Ranaut, who plays Indira Gandhi in the film “Emergency”, says she used to consider the former Prime Minister a very strong woman, but after deep study, she now believes that she was “weak” and “she had to rely on herself”. ‘There is not a single director with whom I want to work’

Kangana has directed and produced the film “Emergency”, which depicts the 21-month emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister in 1975. Ranaut said, till I started working on this film, I considered Indira Gandhi to be very strong but when I studied, I understood that she was the complete opposite. This reinforced my belief that the more vulnerable you are, the more control you want. She was a very weak person. “She didn’t believe in herself and was really weak.”

“There were a lot of crutches around her and she constantly wanted to justify herself somehow. She was very dependent on many people, one of them was Sanjay Gandhi,” he said.

When I talked to Priyanka Gandhi about the film

The BJP MP said that he did not make any changes from his side regarding the portrayal of Indira Gandhi and the Emergency in his film. Ranaut also said that she met Indira Gandhi’s granddaughter and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Parliament and talked about the film. Recalling her brief conversation with Priyanka, the Congress MP from Wayanad, Ranaut said, “I met Mrs. Priyanka Gandhi in Parliament and she praised my work and my hair. So I said, ‘You know, I have done a film. Have made an emergency. Maybe you should see it, ‘Okay, maybe.’

Emergency film will be released on January 17. The film was scheduled to be released months ago, but could not be released due to censor certificate and allegations of portraying the Sikh community in a negative light. The film was originally scheduled to release on September 6, 2024.
