IND vs AUS: Virat got Yashasvi Jaiswal run out? Heated debate between Irfan Pathan and Sanjay Manjrekar

Ifran Pathan vs Manjrekar on Virat Kohli-Jaiswal Run Out Controversy: Team India came to bat after bowling out Australia for 474 runs on the second day of the fourth Test but India got the first blow in the form of captain Rohit Sharma at 8 runs, after which KL Rahul took the innings forward with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Yashasvi Jaiswal maintained the lead as an opener for Team India and on the other hand, he saw Rahul as a strong partner but he became the victim of Pat Cummins on the score of 24 runs. India tried to make a comeback on the fourth day of the fourth Test against Australia, as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli made a brilliant partnership of 102 runs for the third wicket. However, a terrible misunderstanding between Jaiswal and Kohli resulted in the former losing his wicket.

However, who is to be blamed for Jaiswal’s dismissal. Different opinions started emerging on this, but in the post-day show of broadcaster Star Sports, there was a heated debate between former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan (Irfan Pathan vs Sanjay Manjrekar on Yashasvi Jaiswal Run Out).

This is how the heated argument took place between Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan

Manjrekar said- According to Manjrekar (Sanjay Manjrekar on Virat Kohli), Kohli should have responded to Jaiswal’s call and taken a single, because he was running towards the dangerous end of non-strike.

Irfan Pathan expressed disagreement– Irfan Pathan disagreed on this point and said that Kohli was also in danger of being run out at the striker’s end, because Jaiswal’s shot was very powerful.

Sanjay Manjrekar further said- “The ball was going slow, I don’t think Kohli would have been run out. It was Jaiswal’s decision. Maybe a risky run but he was at the danger end, not Kohli. It was Virat’s fault that he looked back and took the decision. “It was not a run. Had Jaiswal’s decision been wrong, he would have been out at the non-striker’s end,” Manjrekar said.

Irfan Pathan retaliated- Irfan refuted Manjrekar’s statement and said that Kohli was probably not ready to take runs because he saw how fast the ball went to fielder Pat Cummins. The former Indian all-rounder also said that as a non-striker, Virat also has the right to refuse to take runs if he feels it is risky. Many times both the former cricketers used to clash with each other.

Manjrekar hit back at Pathan- “If you don’t want to let me talk, that’s okay”. Manjrekar also lost his temper when Irfan kept insisting on his opinion. He said: “Irfan Pathan’s new interpretation of whether there is a run or not should be included in the coaching manual.”

Later during the discussion, Manjrekar also described Kohli’s dismissal as ‘his mistake’, which he must have felt played a role in Jaiswal’s dismissal. He said, “Kohli’s dismissal probably also happened due to the feeling of mistake present in his heart after Jaiswal’s run out. Till then he was leaving the outside-off balls, but after the run out incident, his focus got distracted. Done.”
