IND vs AUS: Will Bumrah become the next Test captain in place of Rohit Sharma, Kapil Dev’s statement surprised

Kapil Dev on Jasprit Bumrah as Team India Test Captain: After Team India’s crushing defeat by 10 wickets in Adelaide, questions are being raised on the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Many fans have now appealed to him to retire from Test cricket and are also asking him to give a chance to new talent. The Indian team, which was playing the Border-Gavaskar Test Tournament on the Australia tour, took charge of the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma and led India to a historic win in Perth after 16 years. Rohit took command of the team back in the Adelaide Test but the result was a disappointing defeat, after which there was talk of giving him the responsibility as Test captain in place of Rohit Sharma.

Kapil Dev said about Bumrah

Former Indian great Kapil Dev believes it is too early to decide whether Jasprit Bumrah is the “best available candidate” to replace Rohit Sharma when the time comes. The Indian team entered the Optus Stadium in Perth in spectacular style. Bumrah captained the visiting team in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who was unavailable due to personal reasons. By putting continuous pressure on Australia, India registered a record 295-run victory over the host team and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

When the series shifted from Perth to Adelaide, Australia shattered India’s dreams by winning by 10 wickets and leveling the score at 1-1. 31-year-old Bumrah has led the Indian team twice so far. In their first match, they had to face defeat at the hands of England in Birmingham in 2022. With questions rising over Rohit’s future as Indian captain, a section of fans have backed Bumrah to take over the role once the dynamic opener’s tenure comes to an end.

However, the World Cup-winning captain believes that a player should be evaluated on the basis of how he reacts in difficult situations and not when he is enjoying success. Kapil told reporters during an event on Monday, “I think it is too early to talk about it. On the basis of one performance you cannot say that he is one of the best and on the basis of one bad performance you cannot say that he is one of the best. Can’t say that he doesn’t deserve it. Let the player play a lot of ups and downs. Then you will judge how he reacts in difficult times.

With the series tied at 1-1, the Brisbane Test could put India under serious pressure in their quest for a third consecutive win in Australia. While many have speculated that India’s response after the defeat in Adelaide What will happen, Kapil has expressed confidence in the team led by Rohit and said, “Yes, they will make a comeback.”
