Jal Jeevan Mission: Tap connection to 15.44 crore houses so far, target to deliver water from every house tap by 2028

Union Water Power Minister CR Patil said on Sunday that Jal Jeevan Mission has been extended till 2028. For this, an allocation of Rs 67,000 crore has been made in the budget 2025-26, which is much higher than the revised estimate of 2024-25 than Rs 22,694 crore. Under the Water Life Mission, tap water connections have been provided in 15.44 crore houses so far. The goal of this mission is to deliver clean and adequate drinking water to every house in rural India.

75 crore people get the benefit of tap water connection

The Union Minister said that by 2028, the remaining 4.33 crore houses will also be covered, which will ensure 100 percent coverage across the country. CR Patil also informed that 75 crore people have benefited from tap water connections under the Water Life Mission. Due to this scheme, the life of four lakh children has been saved by reducing the risk of infection caused by impure water.

Every house will get tap water connection by 2028

The Union Minister said that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman (Union Budget 2025) has set a target of 100 percent coverage under this scheme by 2028 in the speech. The government is promoting this scheme seriously, so that every rural family of the country can get clean drinking water facilities.

Big impact on health, savings of Rs 8.4 lakh crore

Citing the report of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Minister of Water Power said that the water life mission has saved Rs 8.4 lakh crore to be spent on the treatment of water -borne diseases. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman understand the importance of this scheme well and are implementing it seriously.

Four lakh children left their lives

CR Patil stressed that till now, getting tap connection in 15.44 crore houses has helped to save the lives of four lakh children below the age of five years. Every year a large number of children died due to diseases caused by drinking impure water, but this danger has reduced to a great extent due to the availability of clean drinking water under the Water Life Mission.

So far, 75 crore people have taken advantage of this scheme, and by 2028, the government is moving ahead with the target of 100 percent coverage. A budget of Rs 67,000 crore allocated for water life mission

The Union Minister informed that a budget of Rs 67,000 crore has been given to the Ministry of Water Power to implement the Water Life Mission. This will help in connecting the remaining 4.33 crore houses with tap water connection by 2028. He said that in 2013, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government shows a budget of Rs 50 lakh crore as compared to the budget of Rs 16 lakh crore, how much the pace of development in the country has increased.

Big change in defense sector too

Talking about the budget, CR Patil said that during the Congress government, there was a budget of Rs 5.61 lakh crore for the defense sector, which has now increased to Rs 6.81 lakh crore. Earlier weapons were mostly imported, but domestic production has been promoted in the last ten years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
