Mahakumbh stampede: 30 devotees killed, 60 injured; Know how the accident happened

In the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, 30 people have lost their lives in a stampede at midnight on Tuesday. A total of 90 people were injured. 60 injured have been admitted to the hospital. 25 people have been identified in the dead. The fair administration has released the figure of dead and injured by holding a press conference on Wednesday evening after about 17 hours of the stampede. During this, in the press conference, Dig Mahakumbh Nagar Mela area Vaibhav Krishna told how there was a stampede on the Sangam coast.

DIG Vaibhav Krishna said, “There was a lot of crowd between 1 to 2 pm on Tuesday night. Some devotees were sleeping on the confluence coast for the Amrit bath in Brahma Muhurta on Mouni Amavasya. Barricades are installed in the fair. The barricades broke, due to which some devotees who were sleeping on the ground climbed into chaos.

DIG Mahakumbh Nagar said, “On January 29, the government had given strict instructions that there will be no VIP protocol. No VIP protocol was entertained.” Earlier, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had questioned the VIP protocol in Mahakumbh. Rahul Gandhi had said, “The government should control the VIP movement culture. The system should be improved for the remaining days of Mahakumbh.”

At the same time, Mela Officer Vijay Kiran Anand said that the devotees who have come, are working promptly to send them back. The fair administration has issued a 1920 helpline number.

What can be the reason for so many deaths?
Actually, most of the pantoon bridges were closed due to the nectar bath of Mauni Amavasya. Due to this, a crowd of millions started gathering at the confluence. Most of the devotees were waiting for dawn on the Sangam coast to bathe early. During this time some people fell into barricades. Seeing this, there was a stampede. On the other hand, the entry and exit on Sangam Noj were not different. In such a situation, when there was a stampede, there was no chance to run away.

Akhara Parishad refused to bathe amrit
After the stampede, the Akhara Parishad refused to take a bath. However, later, after the situation became normal, the Akharas decided that they would attend the Amrit bath. In the confluence for bathing, flowers were rained by helicopter on saints and saints. All 13 akharas took a bath in the nectar.

8 entry points coming to Prayagraj closed
More than 9 crore people arrived in Prayagraj on Wednesday. The devotees continue to come to the confluence coast. To control the crowd, the fair administration has closed 8 entry points coming to Prayagraj:-

– Bhadohi- There is a 20 km long jam on the Varanasi border.
– There is also a jam on the Chitrakoot border.
More than 50 thousand vehicles have been stopped on the Koshambi border. There has been a jam here for 5 hours.
-The jam is also being seen on Fatehpur-Kanpur border.
40 thousand vehicles were stopped at Pratapgarh border.
– All buses going to Prayagraj on Jaunpur border have been stopped.
-There is also a long jam on the Mizapur border.
Trains have also been stopped on the border.
