Islamabad: Leaders of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf met him at the high-security Adiala jail on Monday, while the party convoy marched towards Islamabad. Khan, 72, has been lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail since last year and has more than 200 cases registered against him, according to his party. In some of them, Khan has got bail, in some he has been convicted and in some others the hearing is going on. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Gauhar Ali Khan met party founder Imran Khan, lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. After the meeting, Gauhar told the media, “Yes, I met him (Khan).”

Discussion regarding protest

According to ‘Express Tribune’ news, Gauhar met the jailed party founder along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa information advisor Barrister Saif and party leader Ali Mohammad Khan. Sources said the purpose of the meeting was to apprise Khan about the latest developments related to the protests in Islamabad and seek his guidance on the matter. In a statement after the meeting, Gauhar said that the party’s strategy was discussed with him. In view of the protests in the capital, party leaders want to ensure that Khan is fully involved in charting the course of action. Sources said this was not a pre-arranged meeting as party leaders meet Khan every Tuesday as per the schedule.

PTI supporters are marching towards Islamabad

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies fired tear gas shells as they entered Punjab during a march against supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and opposition leader Omar Ayub. Departing from Swabi, the convoy proceeded into the Punjab region, but they encountered police resistance near the Attock Bridge, Chach Interchange and the Ghazi Barotha Canal, where officers used tear gas to disperse supporters of Khan’s party. Addressing the crowd before leaving Swabi, the Chief Minister urged party members to move forward, saying, “We must move forward and not back down until Khan is released.” Later, a brief stopover in Ghazi. But he told supporters to “be prepared, because we will have to face further resistance.”
