2. Jan Dhan Yojana
Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, lakhs of people were connected to the banking system. This made financial services accessible to the poor class. Arun Jaitley played an important role in getting this scheme off the ground.
3. Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC)

8. Demonetization
In 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced on 8 November 2026 to curb fake currency, black money and corruption by banning old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. Arun Jaitley played an important role in implementing demonetization.
9. Restructuring of banking sector
Arun Jaitley worked to strengthen the banking sector through recapitalization and merger of public sector banks.

Arun Jaitley was active in student politics since his Delhi University days. During his student days, Arun Jaitley was a member of the RSS’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). During his graduation days, Arun Jaitley was a student of the nationwide famous Shri Ram College of Commerce, he was also the student union president of this college. After this, Arun Jaitley took admission in law and in the year 1974, he was elected President of DU as an ABVP candidate. During the rule of Indira Gandhi, when emergency was imposed in the country, many leaders and social workers across the country were put in jail. In those days, Arun Jaitley was also imprisoned in Delhi’s Tihar Jail for 19 months for opposing the government. In jail, Arun Jaitley met veterans working in various fields.
Entry into BJP in 1980
Arun Jaitley, who has worked as a worker of ABVP and Loktantrik Yuva Morcha, entered BJP in the year 1980. In those days, Arun Jaitley was also practicing law in Delhi. Arun Jaitley was becoming famous across the country as a lawyer and a leader. Arun Jaitley was given a place in the National Executive of BJP in the year 1991. Arun Jaitley has also been elected President of DDCA. Not only this, in the year 2009, Arun Jaitley was also elected Vice President of BCCI.
Became cabinet minister in Atal government
Arun Jaitley was given the post of minister for the first time in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was given the post of Minister of State in 1999, after which he was made the Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs of India in the year 2000. The very next year, he was also given the responsibility of the Shipping Ministry, where he paid special attention to the modernization of ports.
General Secretary of BJP elected in 2002

In the year 2002, Arun Jaitley was elected General Secretary of BJP. Even after the change of power in the country, he remained one of the prominent faces of BJP. In the year 2006, he was sent to Rajya Sabha from Gujarat. In the year 2009, Arun Jaitley was elected Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha. Under the one post policy of BJP, he resigned from the responsibility of General Secretary of the organization. In the year 2012, Arun Jaitley was once again elected to Rajya Sabha from Gujarat.

Arun Jaitley, who was a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, was also given important responsibility in the Modi government of 2014. Although he lost the Amritsar seat in the Lok Sabha elections, but considering his experience, he was given the responsibility of many important ministries besides finance and defence. In March 2018, Arun Jaitley was elected Rajya Sabha member from UP. In view of his continuously deteriorating health, Arun Jaitley refused to take the post of minister in the second term of Narendra Modi government.
