A shocking case has come to light in the European country Norway. Here a village doctor has been accused of raping 87 women. The age of these women is between 14 to 67 years. It is being told that these incidents were happening for the last 20 years. It is alleged that the doctor used to rape these women in their homes and in his surgery room and also made videos. This is being described as the biggest sexual abuse scandal in the history of Norway.
55 year old accused Dr. Arne Bye is accused of sexually harassing 94 women. Two of these women were minors at that time. According to ‘The Sun’, the eldest victim is 67 years old, while the youngest victims are 14 and 15 years old.
Former municipal superintendent Bye has admitted rape in three cases and abuse of office in 35 cases. He could be sentenced to up to 21 years in prison. Police have recovered more than 6,000 hours of video. In these, gynecological tests of the patients have been shown without their knowledge.
Horror story of Doctor Bye’s crime
According to the charge sheet, Bai inserted a cylindrical object ‘like a bottle’ into the private parts of the women without any medical reason. A woman told a court that what a doctor did to her was so painful that she thought she would ‘die’.
In court on Wednesday, the victim, known as ‘lady number 18’, told that she had gone to the doctor complaining of a sore throat. But the doctor started examining him in his underwear on the bench. He said, ‘I thought he was my doctor, so I did as he said.’
All the women told that they were treated badly during the gynecological test. The doctor touched him in the name of ‘stomach massage’. This case has shaken the small town of Frosta in Norway. Bye was a well-known person here and had been the doctor to hundreds of people for years.
The accused used to make videos of patients during examination
Several videos were shown in the court, which Bye had recorded during the investigation. Government lawyer Richard Haugen Ling said, ‘We have a video recording of the attack. In this case we have solid material as evidence. A large part of the chargesheet can be explained through video.
Bye says he filmed the appointment out of fear of lawsuits from patients. He claims that he has never seen any other video except the one related to the case. In a video, several cameras are seen placed around a woman. After this he started examining the woman.
Bye initially denied sexually assaulting ‘woman number 18’, but later partially accepted the rape charge in the court. Another woman testified that Bay asked her several times to sit in the gynecologist’s chair, even though she had no stomach related complaints. He told that the doctor examined him for a long time.
It is being told that the woman’s daughter and sister are also victims of the accused doctor. Health officials informed the police about Bye’s misdeeds in August 2022, after which the police started investigating the matter. The doctor remained in his post until charges were framed by the police in 2023. Although Bay has been facing serious charges, he has not been sent to custody. Police officials say that they are keeping an eye on the situation. At present, there is no basis for arrest.
