Yamuna Water Dispute There has been a stir in Delhi politics once again. An FIR has been lodged against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders at Shahabad police station in Kurukshetra district of Haryana. This action has been taken after the court order, in which a case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The case is related to Kejriwal’s statements about Yamuna river water and the allegations made on the Haryana government.
Kejriwal’s allegations: poison in Yamuna water?
Arvind Kejriwal recently made serious allegations against the Haryana government in a post on the social media platform ‘X’. He wrote, “BJP people from Haryana are sending poison in water to Delhi. If the people of Delhi drank this water, then many people will die. Can any disgusting work be done? The poison that is being sent in the water, it cannot be cleaned even in the water purification plant. Water has to be stopped in many areas to protect the people of Delhi. ” Kejriwal also accused the BJP of conspiring to “mass murder” the people of Delhi.
Haryana government’s response: allegations baseless
Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini reacted strongly to these allegations of Kejriwal. He said, “Kejriwal is making false propaganda to hide his failures and mismanagement, including the claim that Yamuna water is poisonous, so that tension can be created between Haryana and Delhi. Yamuna is not just a source of water for me, but is a matter of faith. I myself have drank the river water and revealed the lie of the former Chief Minister of Delhi. ” Saini demanded an apology from Kejriwal and said that if he does not do so, legal action will be taken.
Increased pollution in Yamuna: a serious problem
The issue of pollution in the Yamuna river is not new. Recently, water supply from Wazirabad, Bhagirathi and Sonia Vihar water treatment plants has been affected by the rise in ammonia levels in the Yamuna river in Delhi. After inspecting the Wazirabad barrage, Chief Minister Atishi said that about 40 percent less water is being supplied from the three plants. Accusing the BJP, he said that the dirty water of industrial units from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh is being released in Yamuna, due to which Delhiites are not getting clean water.
According to experts, the main reason for increasing the level of ammonia in Yamuna is the industrial waste and untreated domestic sewage falling into the river through drains. The Yamuna Monitoring Committee appointed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to identify the main sources of pollution and submit a report by 10 January.
Political allegations: What is the truth?
Following Kejriwal’s allegations, Haryana BJP also reacted sharply. He criticized Kejriwal and said that he is taking advantage of this situation for electoral benefits. He called him “Kalia Nag of Alagi”, which is a mythological snake.
At the same time, Delhi Jal Board CEO Shilpa Shinde described Kejriwal’s allegations as factless, baseless and misleading. He said that such false statements work to spread fear among Delhiites and at the same time it negatively impacts relations between states.
Steps towards solution
Between increasing pollution in the Yamuna river and its politicization, it is necessary that all the concerned parties together find a solution to this serious problem. For the cleanliness of the river and the health of the public, it is necessary that concrete steps should be taken above political allegations and counter-allegations. All states should jointly make joint efforts for cleaning the Yamuna and pollution control, so that the coming generations can get a clean and healthy environment.
