Cold increased in Delhi on Monday. The maximum temperature reached 15 degrees Celsius, 5.4 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 10.3 degrees Celsius, which is 3.5 degrees above normal.

According to the Meteorological Department, similar cold conditions are expected to persist for the next few days. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for fog and severe cold in Delhi on December 31.

At the same time, there is continuous snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The cold wave intensified in Gulmarg and Pahalgam of Kashmir on Monday, while there was some respite from the cold in other parts of the valley.

According to IMD, the temperature will fall in UP, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, MP, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi on Tuesday due to the icy wind of the mountains. There are chances of cold wave and dense fog in North India.

More than 10cm snowfall in 5 districts of Himachal In Himachal, there has been 14.9 cm fresh snowfall in Kalpa, 14.5 in Kufri, 12 in Pooh, 12 in Murang, 10 in Khadrala, 8.5 in Sangla, 8 in Keylong, 1.6 cm in Kukmaseri. Due to this, the minimum temperature has been recorded 1 to 5 degrees Celsius lower than normal.

Tourists decreased in Ladakh this year, increased in Kashmir 5.25 lakh tourists had reached Ladakh in 2023. In 2024, this figure will come down to 3.75 lakh. According to Ladakh Tourism Department, 2.10 crore tourists came to Jammu and Kashmir in 2023. The number will increase to 2.11 crore in 2024.

January 1: Fog alert in 10 states

  • There will be dense fog in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
  • There will be alert of severe cold wave in Himachal Pradesh. There will be ground frost condition in Himachal Pradesh.
  • Wind will blow at high speed in Tamil Nadu-Puducherry. Lightning may also fall in some districts of these states.

January 2: Snowfall in 3 states, fog in North-East

  • There will be dense fog in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura.
  • There will be a cold wave in the states of Northern India, due to which the temperature will fall.
  • Snowfall will continue in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
