Captain Rohit Sharma returning to the pavilion disappointed after being out for 9 runs in the second innings. India lost the fourth match by 184 runs.

India had to suffer a big defeat of 184 runs in the Melbourne Test. Team India has lagged 1-2 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On Monday, the 5th day of the match, Australia had given a target of 340 runs by scoring 234 runs in the second innings, but the Indian team was all out for 155 runs.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the highest score of 84 runs, but he became the victim of a controversial decision by the third umpire. This became the biggest reason for India’s defeat. When Jaiswal was out, the match was in a draw. Akash Deep was supporting him. Apart from the decision, the Indian team lost 7 wickets in the last session. India’s score till tea break was 112/3.

5 reasons for India’s defeat…

1. Top order flop, Rohit-Virat failed Team India’s top order was a complete flop in this match. In the first innings, there was only 8 runs partnership for the first wicket between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma. Rohit was out after scoring 3 runs. KL Rahul scored 24 and Virat Kohli scored 36 runs.

In the second innings, apart from Yashasvi, the first three batsmen Rohit Sharma (9), KL Rahul (0) and Virat Kohli (5) could not reach double figures. Rohit-Virat failed in this match also. Rohit scored 3 runs in the first innings and 9 runs in the second. Whereas Kohli scored 36 runs in the first innings and 5 runs in the second.

2. Yashasvi dropped 3 catches

Yashasvi dropped 3 catches in the second innings. He dropped the catch of Usman Khawaja in the fourth over of Australia’s second innings. On the second ball of Akash Deep’s over, Yashasvi missed his catch in the gully. Marnus Labuschagne got a lease of life in the 40th over. He also got caught by Yashasvi at gully on the ball of Akash Deep.

Yashasvi’s third catch of the innings was dropped in the 49th over. This time he dropped the catch of Pat Cummins. Tried to stop Ravindra Jadeja’s fuller length ball, which went to Yashasvi Jaiswal standing at silly mid-off, but Jaiswal could not take the low-catch.

3. Did not attack to take down Australia’s last wicket Indian bowlers had no attack for the team’s last wicket in Australia’s second innings. Captain Rohit did not put the fielders close. Nathan Lyon and Scott Bowland added 61 runs for the last wicket.

4. Pant’s irresponsible shot

Rishabh Pant tried to play a scoop shot on Scott Boland’s ball.

Pant was caught by Nathan Lyon at deep-third.

Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli were seen playing irresponsible shots in this match also. While captain Rohit Sharma gave advice on Pant’s shot, Sunil Gavaskar criticized his shot. Called it stupidity. Pant was caught by Nathan Lyon on the ball of Scott Boland in the first innings.

Pant wanted to play a scoop shot, but the ball took the outer edge of the bat and went to the deep-third fielder, Lion took the catch without making any mistake. As soon as Pant was out, Sunil Gavaskar, who was doing the commentary, got furious and said – Stupid, stupid, stupid.

5. Third umpire’s controversial decision, Jaiswal out on 84 runs

While returning to the pavilion, Yashasvi Jaiswal looked quite disappointed.

One reason for India’s defeat was a controversial decision by the third umpire, in which Yashasvi Jaiswal was out after scoring 84 runs. He was given not out by the field umpire, but was dismissed by the third umpire despite there being insufficient evidence on review.

When Jaiswal was out, India had 21.1 overs to play and 3 wickets left to draw the match. In such a situation, India could have drawn the match from here, but after the wicket of Yashasvi, India’s lower order (last 3 batsmen) disintegrated. Akash Deep scored 7 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj could not even open the account.
