Waqar Zaman is married to the cousin sister of ousted PM Sheikh Hasina. Sarahnaz Kamalika Rehman, wife of Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, is the daughter of Sheikh Hasina’s uncle Mustafizur Rehman. Mustafizur Rahman held the reins of the army from 1997 to 2000.

Lieutenant General Mohammad Faiz-ur-Rahman is currently posted as Quarter Master General in the Bangladesh Army. He is considered a supporter of radical Islamic ideology. On the other hand, current Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman is seen as a moderate and pro-India military leader. He has played an important role in maintaining peace on the India-Bangladesh border. It is being said that Waqar-uz-Zaman also played an important role in bringing Sheikh Hasina to India.
