Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reached Dhaka on Monday amid the ongoing violence in Bangladesh. His visit is taking place at a time when minorities in Bangladesh, especially the Hindu community, and their religious places are allegedly being targeted. Vikram Misri has expressed grief over the violent incidents after the high level meeting in Dhaka. He said that attacks on religious places are regrettable.
After meeting Bangladesh Foreign Advisor Mohammad Tauheed Hussain, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri expressed hope for improvement in relations between the two countries. He said, “…we also discussed the recent developments. I apprised him of the concerns regarding the safety and welfare of minorities. We also discussed the incidents of regrettable attacks on cultural and religious properties. Religious places and Attacks on Hindus are regrettable and cannot be tolerated at all.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also told the interim government of Bangladesh that India wants ‘positive, constructive and mutually beneficial’ relations. After his high-level meeting, Misri said, “I have today underlined India’s willingness to work closely with the interim government of Bangladesh authority.”

Jaishankar spoke to Mohammad Tauheed Hussain in New York
Earlier in September, a meeting was held between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Tauheed Hussain during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This was the first high-level talks after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster from power, with the focus being on strengthening bilateral ties amid a tense environment.

ISKCON temple was targeted again
On Saturday, fundamentalists once again targeted the ISKCON temple in Bangladesh. Miscreants had set fire to the ISKCON temple in the capital Dhaka. Radharaman Das, vice president of Kolkata ISKCON, had told news agency PTI that attacks are being carried out continuously in Bangladesh targeting Vaishnav sect and ISKCON members.
According to Radharaman Das, Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple and Sri Sri Mahabhagya Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Dhaka were set on fire. Despite our appeal to the interim government of Bangladesh, the police are not taking any concrete steps to deal with these attacks.
