The results of Maharashtra Assembly elections were very disappointing for Uddhav Thackeray. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, which was claiming to form the government here, had to be satisfied with just 20 seats. Uddhav described these results as completely unexpected and incomprehensible. While Eknath Shinde, who tore Shiv Sena apart in this election, caused huge loss to him, his enemy Raj Thackeray gave a big advantage to his brother.
If we look at the 20 seats won by Shiv Sena (UBT), Raj Thackeray’s MNS is believed to have played a big role in its victory in half of them i.e. at least 10 seats. Of these, 8 seats are in Mumbai alone, where Uddhav Thackeray’s party won in a close contest. If we look at these results, we will find that the margin of victory here was less than the votes received by MNS candidates.
Role in Aditya Thackeray’s victory
The first name that comes in this is Aditya Thackeray. In Mumbai’s Worli seat, he defeated Shiv Sena’s Milind Deora by 8,801 votes. Whereas MNS candidate Sandeep Deshpande got 19,367 votes. Earlier in 2019 also, Aditya Thackeray had contested the assembly elections for the first time from the same Worli seat and had won by a huge margin of 67000 votes.
It is believed that if MNS had not cut these votes, then these results could have been embarrassing for Uddhav Thackeray. Firstly, before any member of the Thackeray family did not enter electoral politics and now he entered but got busy in another fight.
Raj Thackeray’s son’s luck was not good
However, another Thackeray was trying his luck in this election, he was Raj Thackeray’s son Amit Thackeray himself. However, his luck was not the same. He got only 33,062 votes in Mahim seat. However, uncle Uddhav also benefited from Amit contesting the elections, because here his candidate Mahesh Sawant defeated Shiv Sena’s Sada Sarvankar by a margin of 1,316 votes.
Similar was the situation in Vikhroli, where the Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate won by 15,526 votes. Whereas the MNS candidate got 16,813 votes. In Jogeshwari East, the Uddhav faction candidate won by a margin of 1,541 votes, where MNS got 64,239 votes. A similar situation was seen in Mumbai’s Dadar, Versova, Kalina and Wadala East seats, where the victory margin of the Uddhav faction candidate was less than the votes received by the MNS candidate.

Apart from these 8 seats of Mumbai, the candidate of Uddhav faction won Vani seat by 15,560 votes. He got 94,618 votes, while the MNS candidate got 21,977 votes. The victory margin on Guhagar seat was 2,830 votes. Here Uddhav faction got 71,241 votes and MNS got 6,712 votes.
Eknath Shinde defeated Uddhav Thackeray on 36 seats.
On the other hand, Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde caused a big loss to Uddhav Thackeray in this election. Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) contested 81 seats and won 57 seats. Out of these 81 seats, he had a direct contest with the Shiv Sena candidate on 50 seats. Out of these, Eknath Shinde’s candidate won on 36 seats. Uddhav’s Shiv Sena-UBT won on 14 seats.
Although Uddhav Thackeray definitely won 20 seats here, but the results of Maharashtra elections have been disappointing for him. He even said that he could not believe that Maharashtra, which used to treat him as “Kutumba Pramukh” during the coronavirus pandemic, would treat him like this. Political pundits even started questioning what will happen to Uddhav Thackeray’s politics now?
However, his brother Raj Thackeray also had a bad fate in this election. In the Maharashtra Assembly elections, MNS had fielded 125 candidates and except one or two, all of them had their deposits forfeited. After this result, questions started being raised about the future of Raj Thackeray.
The only question is whether cousins Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, who learned the art of politics from Bal Thackeray, will now come together to save the political legacy. Well, only time will tell.
