She was drinking coffee and fell from the emergency window. How safe are the glass walls of new offices?

Mumbai:

It was the manager’s birthday, the office colleagues were preparing for the celebration. Cakes were being decorated in the pantry, some people were bringing things to eat. Meanwhile, an employee of the office, Jinal Vora, was sitting in front of the glass window in the pantry and drinking coffee. Suddenly there was a loud sound… as if someone had fallen down. When the colleagues engaged in the birthday celebration looked back, Jinal was not there. Jinal had fallen from the 11th floor, due to which she died. This incident took place in an office in Mumbai, after which many questions are being raised. One of the questions that is being raised is how safe are the glass walls in the office? Are these big glass walls capable of saving people in a disaster?

Fell down from 11th floor while drinking coffee…

A 27-year-old employee of an insurance company in Mumbai’s Powai lost her life after falling from the emergency window of her 11th floor office pantry around 8 pm on Thursday night. Powai Police said that Jinal Vora, resident of Borivali East, accidentally fell while drinking coffee near the emergency window. Jinal Vora suffered head injury after falling in the garden of the 10th floor of Supreme Business Park. Seeing the accident, a colleague along with other staff members immediately reached the 10th floor and took Vora to Hiranandani Hospital, where he died at 8 am on Friday.

Which glass is being used in offices?

  • Toughened glass is a type of safety glass, which is much stronger than normal glass.
  • Nowadays only toughened glass is used in walls, doors etc. of offices.
  • It is believed that they are very strong, but sometimes they cause a lot of damage when they break.
  • Toughened glass is made by heating common glass and then cooling it suddenly.
  • In this process the surface of the glass becomes harder and the inner part becomes stronger.
  • When toughened glass breaks, it shatters into small pieces, which reduces the chance of injury.

After all, how did Jinal fall… Police engaged in investigation

An officer of Powai police station said, ‘Vora accidentally fell while drinking coffee near the emergency window in the pantry, while other members of the office were busy decorating a cake to celebrate their manager’s birthday. We have recorded the statements of the office employees and have also sought CCTV footage from the company’s security agency. Only after examining the CCTV footage could the police tell how Jinal fell and whether she was the victim of some conspiracy?

‘A call came that your wife had fallen unconscious…’

Initial investigation by the police has not revealed any suspicious circumstances and the victim’s family members have also not expressed any doubt. No formal complaint was filed with the police, who have filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR). In the police statement, Vora’s husband Siddharth Kakka, a lawyer by profession, said, ‘I got a call from my wife’s office that she had fallen unconscious on the floor. But I came to know that the matter was serious when I reached the office and found that she had fallen from the 11th floor.

The police is now trying to find out how Jinal slipped from the window. Was the emergency window open or was its glass broken? If the glass broke, what was the reason for it? Only after getting answers to these questions will the mystery of this death case be solved.
