HighLights
- Aiser scientists explained the importance of Custard Apple by sequencing its genome.
- Open way for production of Custard apple in any season and production of new varieties.
- At present the annual production of Custard Apple in Madhya Pradesh is said to be 12 lakh tonnes.
Naiduniya Representative, Bhopal(Sitaphal Fruit). Professor Vineet K. of the Department of Biological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (ISER), Bhopal. Sharma’s team has prepared the genome sequencing of Custard Apple (custard apple) and identified many new medicinal properties of it.
It has been found that the anti-oxidant, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties present in it can be effective in the treatment of many major diseases like cancer and diabetes. His study has also opened the way to preserve Custard Apple for a longer period.
Currently this fruit spoils within two-three days of ripening. Because of this, it does not get fair price. Scientists say that its properties have been identified by changing the sequence of the gene. Now this fruit can be stored for a long time. This will also ease its transportation and storage.
Completed the study on this in two years
In such a situation, this study will not only advance the research of scientists, but will also prove beneficial for farmers and people. Vineet K. Sharma along with researchers Manohar Vishisht, Abhishek Chakraborty, Shruti Mahajan have completed this study in two years.
used these techniques
During this study, scientists used Oxford Nanopore and Illumina technologies to improve the quality of the cucurbit genome. Its genome is organized into seven pseudochromosomes with a total length of 950 megabases (Mb).
Quality also improves
Through this study, information has been obtained about the medicinal properties of Custard Apple, especially its bioactive compounds. It showed significant expansion in gene families related to photosynthesis, oxidative phosphorylation and plant thermogenesis.
Identification of genes associated with fruit sweetness, sugar transport (e.g. sweet genes) and secondary metabolite production may help in breeding programs to increase fruit quality, yield and stress resistance, thereby promoting its cultivation and use in agriculture. Could. Let us tell you that the production of custard apple in Madhya Pradesh is 12 lakh tonnes annually.
This is the genome sequence
With the help of genome project, we find out the hidden qualities of some plants. This is a type of code, which is of four letters. It exists inside DNA in the form of adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C) and thymine (T).
These four letter sequences keep changing in DNA. For example AGCT, ACGT, ATGC…. These sequences can range from thousands to lakhs and crores in plants. These genome sequences form genes.
Sequencing of Sitaphal has not been done
By sequencing the genome of the Custard Apple plant, its medicinal properties have been discovered. This is a fruit which is not famous, but its properties are quite high. Till now its genome sequencing had not been done anywhere. – Pro. Vineet K Sharma, Scientist, Department of Biological Sciences, ICERS, Bhopal
Many vitamins are found in custard apple
Vitamin A and C are found in Custard Apple, hence it has many benefits. Also, phycochemical is found in its leaves, which is full of medicinal properties. Now after genome sequencing, the way for its production in any season will be easy. Besides this, its new variety can also be developed. – Dr. Bharti Kumar, Professor, Department of Botany, Government Motilal Science College, Bhopal
