The new Pamban Bridge is built from Rameswaram to Mandapam.
A successful trial of the Rameswaram Express train was conducted on Friday on the new Pamban railway bridge in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. The train was taken from Mandapam to Rameswaram railway station. There was no passenger in it. Local people are happy with the start of train service after 2 years.
Apart from this, the vertical lift up bridge was first lifted up for the patrolling boat of the Indian Coast Guard. After this, the boat passed under the bridge.
Pamban Bridge is an amazing example of engineering. This bridge is 2 km long, which is built on the Bay of Bengal. It is made parallel to the existing Pamban Bridge. It has 100 spans across the sea, of which 99 spans are 18-3 meters and a span is 72-5 meters measurement.
Pamban Bridge is the first vertical lift up bridge in the country, which has been built at a cost of Rs 531 crore. This bridge connects Rameswaram to the mainland of Tamil Nadu.

The old Pamban Bridge started in 1914 The Pambon Cantillar Bridge was started in the year 1914, considered one of the structures formed in the former era. By connecting the Gulf of Peninsular India and Mannar, it connects Mandapam to Rameswaram Island. This bridge comes under the jurisdiction of Madurai Mandal of Southern Railway.
It is 2.06 km long and has 145 spans of 12–2 meters (40 ft) and a Sherger span of 65–23 m (213 ft) clear span. The bridge was originally built for meter gauge and was later strengthened according to the broad gauge standard during 2006–07.
Shipping Spain is also known as Sherger Rolling Lifrt Spain named after the railway engineer who invented it.
